The roofing experts at Roof Top Services LLC recently completed a roof repair project, addressing a chimney leak for a homeowner based out of Roseland, VA.
The homeowners had a new roof installed six years prior through a big retail chain store and their rock chimney had leaked into their home since. Ready to have the problem addressed once and for all before further damage was done to the structure of their home, the homeowners started asking around for referrals for a quality roofing contractor in Nelson County. We inspected the chimney and found that the flashing had been improperly installed and the mortar between the rock was enabling water infiltration. We concluded that the best and most economical way to address the issue was to cover the rock chimney by framing it and installing board and batten siding. The homeowners loved the solution and were anxious to get the project started so their roof would no longer leak.
Our crew started by removing the shingles and felt paper from around the chimney. Then they attached wooden framing with special screws to the rock and roof framing, covering it with plywood and Tyvek. We also installed PVC corner trim and Hardi Panel and Hardi Batten Strips in addition to field fabricating a new stainless steel chimney cap over the entire chimney while turning metal up and inside the flue pipes. Our roofers also tied the shingle roofing back into the existing roofing with step and counter flashing. Finally, we reinstalled the stainless steel flue caps and painted the board and batten to match the colors of their home.
The client is excited about the new look of their roof and chimney and they are thrilled to be leak free.
